Then there’s the eerie “Walking Dead,” which features Chester B of, uh, Linkin Park. Achh!! Blasphemy! What’s a RAWK DUDE doing on a “hip-hop” CD, son? “I thought about [that issue], but at the same time, I kinda didn’t give a shit,” Z says. “We just wanted to make some tracks together. He’s from AZ too, so there was that karmic element. We sat down: ‘Whatta you wanna do?’ ‘I dunno, let’s make something dark.’ Boom! It came out. Nothing was forced.” Read more

Linkin Park trademark case thrown out Reuters reports that a judge has rejected a bid by Linkin Park to trademark its name for use on posters.
A judge has rejected a bid by Californian nu-metal band Linkin Park to trademark its name for use on posters, leaving shopkeepers free to sell unofficial posters of music and show business personalities. In a landmark judgement which means the band cannot sue suppliers of unauthorised posters, Judge Richard Arnold said on Tuesday that unlike merchandise such as CDs and books, a famous name appearing on a poster was purely descriptive.
"Third parties are, of course, entitled to take and exploit pictures of celebrities -- the copyright in a picture of Linkin Park belongs to the creator of it and not necessarily to the group itself," he said. In the mind of a shopper, the name that appears on a poster indicates that the goods are related to the person or group rather than suggesting that it was supplied by them, he ruled.
The band's lawyers had countered that it was unnecessary for a trader in posters to use the band's name, but the judge disagreed, saying it would be difficult to deal with wholesalers or retailers without it. "Even so far as consumers are concerned, I do not believe that the members of the group are as recognisable as, say, David Beckham -- which, if it were the case, might permit posters to be sold to consumers by image alone."

MFR benefit concert raises over one million dollars A press release from Market Wire about the Music For Relief benefit concert which has raised over one million dollars.
An all-star lineup which included No Doubt, Linkin Park with Jay-Z, Jurassic 5, Story of the Year, The Crystal Method and Camp Freddy came together at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, CA, February 18, 2005, for a united cause, Music For Relief: Rebuilding South Asia. The benefit concert was a phenomenal achievement on all fronts; most notably in its success in raising over 1 million dollars for the ongoing rebuilding effort in South Asia and surrounding countries.
Commenting on the success of the show, Brad Delson of Linkin Park had this to say, "It's hard to fully express just how grateful we are for the massive effort that made Music For Relief's Concert at The Pond such a tremendous success. So many amazing people came together to pull off what turned out to be an incredibly powerful night. We are pleased to announce that due to the generosity of the artists, fans, and other remarkable individuals who donated energy, resources and time, over one million dollars was raised. This money will allow UNICEF and Habitat for Humanity to continue essential projects aimed at rebuilding homes, schools, and lives in South Asia." -- Full report

?uestlove puts Shinoda on his dance card MTV.com has posted an article about the Roots and their annual Grammy all-star jam session and mentions Mike. Am I reading this correctly? Mike is working on a solo album??
For the Roots' drummer/spokesperson, ?uestlove, rubbing shoulders isn't happening only on the stage this week. A bevy of artists out here for the ceremony have been hollering at him to produce their albums. "Hey man," ?uest said on Friday, "that's my bread and butter. I network, I shake hands, I kiss babies. I'm a musical politician." So far, he says, his dance card is filled with Common, Musiq and Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park, who's working on a solo album. With all his hobnobbing, the Grammys are the last thing on his mind. -- Shaheem Reid. Full article

MTV Asia Aid report
A report on the MTV Asia Aid concert from the February 11 issue of Philippine Star
I could respect what Chester Bennington from Linkin Park are doing (despite my seething hatred of their poseur rock n' roll). The guys helped set up Music for Relief - which is in partnership with UNICEF, the Red Cross, and Habitat for Humanity - to raise funds and help in the recovery efforts in the tsunami stricken region. "The last thing on our minds right now is making another record!" Bennington snapped at the reporter in the pressroom who was asking about the propects of another collaboration with Jay-Z. "We are all members of the community and it is our task to help people (overcome) what they lost." You could almost hear the sound of heads nodding in that room.
Chester Bennington, who presented the MTV Inspiration Award to all the people affected by the tsunami, made an appearance at the press room to give updates about Music for Relief. "We are going to have a benefit concert on February," said the Linkin park singer, adding that his band, Ozzy Osbourne and No Doubt are slated to perform as well. "I went to Phuket yesterday to see how the relief efforts are coming along. We're joining Unicef and Habitat for Humanity in helping rebuild homes, dignity a sense of regularity for the tsunami victims. But what we're doing is just a small part of the big picture."
The came the inevitable iPod and royalty check questions, "Are you serious?" answered Bennington, sound peeved. "I don't like to be rude but I'd like to stick to questions about Music for Relief which is the current focus of the band. We are reaching out to artists, fans and record excutives. I believe, we should stop dwelling on the tragedy and start focusing on rebuilding. We should help people affected by the disaster in whatever way we can." Chester's point is, sometimes making music should take a backseat to being human. -- Igan D'Bayan
Chester on CNN Monohybrid reports that there was a report on CNN about the MTV Asia Aid concert which includes a short interview of Chester where he talked about how important it is for people to give back something to the society who has done so much for them.
New LPU video: Interview with Greg Waterman, Part 2 LPU members head over to LPUnderground.com to download a new LPU video clip. This is part 3 of 5 clips to be posted on LPU, they were recorded from the book signing in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York last month. This video is part 2 of an interview with Greg Waterman, the man who took all those photos for the LP coffee table book, "From The Inside: Linkin Park's Meteora".
Chart Attack Readers' Poll The ChartAttack.com's 10th Annual Year-End Readers' Poll results is out, the Thank You Much-Ly Award for best video goes to Linkin Park's "Breaking The Habit," which garnered 999 votes and 14.6 per cent of the overall total.
